How many times may one household apply for assistance?

Once per Energy Assistance Program season.  Each heating season begins the first week in October and ends on May 15 of the following year.  Each cooling season begins the first week in June and concludes on August 31.


Are there other locations than the CAGI offices where I may apply?

Yes,                           for the additional locations where applications may be taken. (You need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the site list.)



Can I make an appointment for my application visit?

Appointments are encouraged, as they speed the application process.  If you live in Marion County, you can call 1-866-565-0197 toll free to set up your appointment date and time.  The appointment lines are open beginning the first week of September.  Walk-in service is provided only for those individuals in danger of service disconnection within the next 24 hours, or those whose service already has been disconnected.  These individuals will be served as gaps in the appointment calendar permit, or at the end of the day once all clients with appointments are served.  There is no guarantee that walk-in clients will be able to receive same-day service.

If you live in Boone, Hamilton or Hendricks County, you need to call the county office where you reside to set up an appointment.  Those numbers are listed in the left-hand column under "CAGI Offices."

What documents (paperwork) do I need to bring with me to complete my application?

  • Proof of income for the 12 months previous to the application date FOR ALL HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS AGE 18 AND OLDER (if employed at least a year, your most recent paycheck stub; if less than a year, printout from Indiana Dept of Workforce Development; if on SSI, Social Security or TANF, your award/notification letter)
  • Social Security cards FOR ALL HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS
  • Your MOST RECENT heating and electric BILLS
  • If at least one (1) of your utilities is included in your rent, you MUST bring in A COPY OF YOUR CURRENT LEASE
  • At least one PHOTO ID (your Indiana state ID or driver's license, military ID)
