The Promise of Community Action
Community Action changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.
We are pleased to announce that the team led by Community Action of Greater Indianapolis was awarded an allocation of low income housing tax credits from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s Moving Forward 2.0 competition! My deepest thanks to James Taylor of the John H. Boner Center and his staff and everyone else involved for the important role they played in this process and especially to Dr. Ferebee who was our rock star and closer in our presentation. Also, a big thanks to Jonathan Ehlke of TWG and Melissa Benton of the Boner Center who did the heavy lifting on our application and the preparations for the presentation.
This award will mean approximately $7.5 million in resources to create an additional 30-35 units of affordable housing centered on the families whose children attend the Thomas Gregg Elementary School. With wraparound services provided by CAGI, the Boner neighborhood center and others, families will be engaged in a variety of services to promote economic prosperity and academic excellence for their children.
The planning process for this work will unfold over the next 6-8 months so stay tuned for updates as we think about the design of our project including possible sites, services and innovative features in regards to energy efficiency and transportation options for residents.
